Crew Is The Sport I Love

Never do I have free time,
Practice and Regattas
Are where my minutes are spent.

Its hard work!
Pain,
Determination,
Goals,
Teamwork,
Practice,
These are the ingredients
To coming in first

My coach will make us
Row to our own graves, yes,
But all this pain
Gives us good times,
Gliding into first place!

A sport to teach
To fear people who are short,
They scream in your ear
"JUMP!"
"POWER 10!"
"BRING UP THE PRESSURE!"
"STAY IN TIME!"
"DON'T RUSH YOUR SLIDE!"
Amongst many other demanding commands
Oh, how their "coxswain voice" is
Like a German Drill Instructor.
(Did I mention mine is learning German?)

My friends,
They look at my hands,
See my schedule,
Hear sometimes of the work
And repeat
"QUIT ALREADY, PLEASE!"
I shake my head.
I may think about it
But I won't quit.
I love this sport,
In some twisted way.
