From Under the Eye of God

God was happy with us once,
human kind,
emotionless dolls,
marionettes on silver strings
pulled tight under his hands.

But we grew boring,
unentertaining,
and he felt uncared for,
unloved,
and unchallenged.

So he leaned down,
off of his throne
and discarded his crown for a day,
then walked among us.

From when the sun breached the sky,
and the stars lit the night,
God walked among us,
and saw our blank stares
and our unquestioning eyes.

In desperation,
God closed his eyes and wished,
wished to whoever is in charge of God,
that we would be able to feel,
to feel like him.

When he returned to his palace,
above the clouds,
and looked down upon us the next day,
he saw us smile,
and he saw us laugh,
and he joined in.

But as the days dragged on,
humans felt like him,
they felt strong,
and they allowed their emotions to control them.

God was disappointed,
his animated dolls
had broken and decayed,
leaving demented rags behind.

Those rags became dreamers,
and those dreamers became winners,
and those winners became lovers,
out from under the eye of God.

First idea for the 'creation myth' assignment in my Lit class. This started out as a way to explain emotions but the end became a way to explain those who don't believe in god, like myself. I like it, but I'm not sure if this is the one I'm going to use it.
