The stranger

It's three in the morning
And we're still up chatting:
Bands and movies, childhood stories
Everything comes so naturally.

It doesn't matter the way you look
How old you are or whether you smoke
In this world we can put on a disguise
And be free from men's judging eyes.

Still, I know what people say,
That I've got it all wrong;
And what if I awake one day
To find that you're suddenly gone?

Promises don't matter here,
And that's the way it'll stay.
For to us it's always been clear
That this is the best way.

It's wrong to say that this implies
Our relationship is built on lies;
If it weren't for this veil of mystery
How could we talk so honestly?

Sure, we've never actually met;
But you're here for me when I'm upset;
So thank you, dear, and I hope you may
Be with the one you love one day.
