Escape.

You tremble, you stare.
Your arms wrapped around you, tight.
You’re terrified of what could happen next,
Like an insomniac fears the night.

A tear cascades past your cheek,
Splashes on the cold, wet ground.
You hold your breath anxiously,
You hope you haven’t made a sound.

He’s looking for you, his one, his only,
The one he promised to protect.
But no longer does he have the right,
But to all this, he will object.

You close your eyes as you try to escape,
Though you cannot run from reality.
You prey it’ll be quick, like a bullet to the head,
Though you don’t want to be counted as just another fatality.

You whimper softly as he kneels down beside you,
“No more running, okay? You’re mine.”
You nod quickly, trying to convince him of that fact,
He has to believe that it’s fine.

You close your eyes as he carries you back,
Back to the place you never wanted to see again.
You bite your nails as you deal for the coldness,
The long dark stairs you know he has to descend.

They’ll never find you here, you know that now.
You realised you’ve waited too long.
He’ll never understand the pain he’s putting you through,
He still believes he’s done nothing wrong.
