When Your Demons Call You Home

He says, “I promise, someday soon,”
but your walls don't feel your own
when the songs echo through your soul,
of demons calling you home.

You realize at once it doesn't seem as it did,
and while the feeling you have starts to sink in,
he says “I promise, someday soon.”

And how are you to feel when soon never comes?
Every day you wake and watch the rising sun,
you wait inside yourself and you're beginning to feel numb.

He says, “I promise, someday soon,”
but you don't care anymore.
You lay awake and they eat you alive.

Your demons call you home.
You don't care anymore,
you've lost all of your drive,
and you don't even feel alone.

He says, “you're not yourself anymore,
please come back.”
He says, “I love you, I always have.”
He says, “I'm sorry, I was stupid. I'm sorry,
I was wrong.”
But your demons call you home,
singing their victory song.
