Help Me Breathe

There’s a weight

Just above here

Pure concrete or steel

It must be

To be of such immensity

Can’t you see it?

Please, help me

Lift it away

With it there, I can’t breathe

Each inhale is slow,

Bittersweet pain

Letting it out

Fearing no air

Will find a way back again

I’m suffocating

Can’t you see?

This weight, pressing down on me

On my chest, my shoulders

Wherever a heart

Is supposed to be

You stand there just watching

As I struggle to breathe
