Free

Fresh spring day
So refreshing
Time to say
“I’m free.”

All the long,
Long winter’s nap
We didn’t belong.
Not there, not there.

We hear a song,
One so sweet
Now we long
To say, “I’m free.”

Songbirds twitter
Notes of comfort
Our souls are swifter
Singing, “We’re free.”

Like it says in the description, this poem is one I wrote for a school assembly. In June, my grade will get to meet a Holocaust survivor, and my ELA teacher said that anyone who wanted to write and present anything could do so. I offered to write a poem, and this is what I came up with.
