Guardian Angel

The day had been normal
The trip routine
But one little boy's day
Would be all but serene
A driver was drunk
His car would careen
Towards the little boy
That he hadn't yet seen
He shied away
And closed his eyes
To wait for the crash
That would be his demise

But then he saw
Bursting with light
A guardian angel
All clothed in white

She scooped him up
Now safe from harm
His eyes grew wide
As he clutched at her arm
His gaze was adoring
As she lifted him high
His fear of heights left him
As they soared through the sky
But soon she was gone
His mother he found
Was holding him close
As he lay on the ground

He looked up to see one last time
To see the form in flight
Of a guardian angel
All clothed in white

All the days of his life
He gave thanks to God
For just being alive
Through circumstances far past odd
But he continued to dream
Of a familiar face
Smiling down at him
With eyes full of love and grace
Happy for each new day
He lived in the moment
Not willing to waste
His life-saving event

Of when he was carried through the sky
In the pre-dawn light
By a guardian angel
All clothed in white

When he died, at first
He didn't want to go
To leave behind
Every person he'd gotten to know
But the knowledge of his angel
Helped him loosen his grip
So he floated away from the earth
After the last breath passed his lip
At the gates of heaven
He awkwardly stood
And was embraced as he entered
Because he'd lived as he should

When he pulled away
He found to his delight
His guardian angel
All clothed in white

For eternity they live
In the kingdom in the sky
And the man found all the answers
To the question why
His family joined him
After their lives eventually passed
They were all together
At home at last
Soon after he was given
A simple task
He accepted with a smile
At what God had to ask

So he returned to the earth
In hours of darkness and light
As a guardian angel
All clothed in white
