One Day

One day, I swore I’d be the one
I always dreamed I’d be
‘One day’, I said, ‘I’ll make the cut,’
‘I will one day; you’ll see.’

Somewhere I knew, beyond the clouds
And wispy ideal haze
There waited my inheritance
To seize the prize of days.

Forever I sat waiting
Of that dream I can’t let go
‘One day’, I made a promise;
A thousand days ago

‘One day I’ll have the courage…’
‘One day I’ll find the means…’
I’m saving all my living
For that ‘one day’ now, it seems.

So don’t just bundle all your thoughts
Away to save for rain
And don’t just make excuses
Or designate the blame.

Don’t walk into the future
Clinging to a past impression
Murdering tomorrow
At yesterday’s discretion.

Delaying resolutions
You never want to say
One day you could have lived your life-
Well, that day was today…
