To Save a Life

I once knew a girl,
Happy as can be,
Thought she knew the world,
But she didn’t really.
It all began,
A few years ago,
When alcohol overran,
her family life’s low.
It was a normal night,
She didn’t expect,
To see the sight,
that would affect.
Her life it changed,
As she saw,
Her mom deranged,
From alcohol.
Pill bottle in hand,
Empty as could be,
Mom couldn’t stand,
How she couldn’t sleep.
She tackled her mom,
To the floor,
She took away the pills,
And shut the door.
She screamed at her mom,
“What’s going on?”
No source of calm,
She would be gone.
If it wasn’t for the girl,
Who saved her life,
She’d be gone from the world,
By pill or knife.
The problem still rages,
From time to time,
We turn the pages,
To get rid of the grime.
This girl still fights,
To end the madness,
She knows what’s right,
To stop mom's sadness.
Every day,
She says it isn’t right,
Mom knows that she is not okay,
But she will win the fight.
This girl I know all too well,
Full of misery,
She tries to fight internal hell,
Because that girl is me.
