Dirt to the Grave

From the dust of our minds and back again
Dreams of our lives in earth’s heaven
Reality is a bridge starting in ash
And ash to ash is this life we live

Although we were within our grasps
We only dreamt of holding the other’s hand
A life lived only in our heads
Like a twin dream from distant beds

Dirt to the grave
It’s all quite the same
But we now know what we’ve had
And it’s driving us mad
The past becomes a shame
We think ourselves insane
For letting time come to pass
We wait till we again come at last

Petty portraits of electric sight
But it doesn’t feel just as right
As when I had my hand on your leg
Or when on you we linked chance to the dead

Aging waves wash up the sand
In which every grain lives the days we had
Back to our minds we turn
For every memory we do recall
We lie to ourselves and pretend
Our time never had an end
Now we’re back to existing only in our heads
Waiting for the day we rise from the dead
