Lady Death

The leaves drift off the trees leaving only
A skeleton. Seeming dead and gruesome
Flowers wilt and leave their body lonely
For lacking petals and hue. No blossom
To brighten the gloom. Feathers, off they drop
Birds long gone, the asphalt their resting place
Like a horrid disease she will not stop
Until all of us have dropped from the race
She is cold and cruel, bringing sadness
Leaving all to rot in her horrid midst
She is calm and fair, keeping us hopeless
Against the Great Equalizer and mist
That covers the eyes of the silent dead
Taking life which we hoard, the life we shed.
