The Death of the Mocking Bird

From behind closed doors I see it all
From behind shut windows I know them all
This tiny town doesn’t see it’s faults
With eyes half closed we listen much more

With eyes open wide they children starts to cry
With eyes shut tight no one else knows why
Adults they believe the truth will set them free
But it’s the children who know when justice is let go
I know all this from behind closed doors.

From behind closed doors I watch everyday
The folks in this town won’t recognize my face
I hide in the shadows; I just want to be alone
No one knows why I stay home

With eyes open wide they children starts to cry
With eyes shut tight no one else knows why
Adults they believe the truth will set them free
But it’s the children who know when justice is let go
I know all this from behind closed doors.

From behind closed door I watch the mocking bird die
And see that only the kids start to cry
Why don’t adults spare time to shed a tear
For the death of the mocking bird and the rebirth of fear.
