The One That Got Away

So put your hand up if you've ever had a dream,
Ever wished with all your might,
For the strength so you could fight
For the one that walked away
When you were much too scared to say
How you felt for them that day.
And for that you'll always pay

That day she came to him asking if it's meant to be, if you'll ever settle down and, "will you marry me?"
He looked in her eyes but all he told was lies.
Told her, "There is no more just you and me, there never was there'll never be. I'm done, baby, can't you see that all you do is torture me?"
'Cause he never felt like that before, and even now he's not so sure
Asked himself, "How could that have been real trust and love
when all they did was push and shove?
We battled back and forth for hours, loud enough to shake tall towers
Shit, not even her favorite flowers could fix a dying love like ours."

But even though they yelled and fought, about the friends he had or the things she bought,
They always stayed loyal and true because that's what friends and lovers do.
That is until the day he quit, spat out words and all were shit.
He told her that he didn't love her, and for that he'll always pay
He pushed her over the edge that day, when he should have made her stay.
