Deliverer

Towards the sun I walked with my bare feet.

The sound of the wind and the melodies of the trees

On this island, I must give the news.

But what is unwanted in this realm?

A spontaneous feeling of unhappiness.

And a sudden feeling of regret.

I screamed but no one else heard.

Why is there no answer?

Why is there no pulse?

Did the sun consume the flowers, the trees and the birds?

Did the rainbows hide beneath the mountains?

Has it all started?

The sky answered not.

But the air has delivered me this.

The smell of burnt figs.

The stench of fried flesh.

Charred, barren and desolate.

A weeping site for the birds.

My eyes wandered.

I held my crystal, pointing the way.

To a young girl, clinging to her doll.

She breathes.

Her heartbeat stays.

What happened?

She answered not.

Mute.

Silent.

What is your name?

On the dusty ground she wrote:

Maka.

She claimed no tears.

A strong child.

A survivor.

Amidst all these.

We stayed there for the night.

The moon in its crescent form

Like a blade slashing the leaves

A howling sound from a distant.

A wolf came with shiny eyes.

What have you say?

I ask with my crystal held up high.

The wolf stood there licking his lips.

My name Lufi.

My pack is moving away from here.

A more vicious killer has claimed my throne.

Like the strong wind I sensed in my fur.

So I must go to the boat.

Then the wolf went away.

The child still sleeps.

The wind I wonder.

What is with the wind?

And what of the boat?

Morning came.

We headed north.

The plains stretched out wide.

Various birds darkened the sky.

An eagle stopped by.

I held my crystal. Then it spoke:

I am Naha.

The wind has spoken and led us away.

And the smoke has set its trail.

To the north. To the north.

The trees have fallen. Gathered up there.

I saw a big boat.

Then the eagle flew.

Oh what awaits the north.

A river at the side.

Some towering trees and itchy flies.

However, we are tired and sat to rest.

An albino snake hissed.

I held my crystal again.

I am Moye and the culprit you seek.

So close. So close.

What culprit? I asked.

Maka held my hand.

The perpetrator. The killer of her clan.

Hide here. Moye motioned.

A hollow so big, a horse could enter.

Moments later.

A heavy footstep.

A huge man.

The smell of charred hair.

Of oil, of fat and of murder.

Kroko.

Maka whispered to me his name.

Her voice I heard for the first time.

A rock I held.

I am but a messenger.

A deliverer of news.

From the land of Crystals

Of forbidden arts.

I cannot exact vengeance.

Nor save an innocent child.

I dropped the rock.

To the small narrow stream we ran.

I am no warrior.

That I know well.

Then salmon wiggled underneath my feet.

I held my crystal.

In my mind. It spoke.

I am Pranus. There is a boat.

Full of everything in this world.

If you went to the other side of the mountain.

You’ll see not what happened to your land.

Oh, my poor land.

Once so proud and abundant.

But now underneath.

And we ran some more.

For fear.

The river is unsteady.

And we saw what the salmon saw.

We took the small boat as the water become crazy.

And the earth began to shake.

Indeed the boat has everything.

A treasure of a town’s worth.

Kroko. Maka said again.

The boat was Kroko’s.

He a scoundrel, killer, arsonist and thief.

And he is coming to get them.

Quickly they got on the boat.

The gap is closing in.

What can they do?

Maka threw the golds, jewelries, treasures!

As Kroko chased after them.

Forgetting about his boat.

Oh! Oh!

Throwing them lighten up the boat.

So that I could oar faster.

The earth then blows up a steam.

Heat underneath!

Kroko was no more together with his treasure.

O deliverer. Hear us!

The sky darken.

Darkens still.

The rain falls.

Only my crystal served as our light.

Then we saw a big boat.

O another boat!!

I held up my crystal and heard of

Lufi, Naha and Moye’s voice.

This is the boat, come aboard!

Pranus and his friends pushed ours towards them.

Amidst the rain and storm.
