A Sign Pointing Me Home
My job, my destiny
I grew up knowing this hate
One that ensued inside my heart
But as I reached the prime of my age
I realized that my life didn’t have to follow down the road,
The road my father laid out before be like his father’s before him
I found love in my life
And we started a family
I was happy
I had a child, a wife
I had my own life
But it didn’t last for long
Left to travel the roads with my baby daughter,
I looked for my lost wife
But as the years got shorter
And my daughter, older
I started to peruse my old destiny
Without realizing
I put all my hate for my life into this task
And when I found the one I was destined to kill,
I was going to do it
But fate wasn’t kind
I lost my prey
It was weeks and months before we met again
And when I did
The things she said
Made me think my life all over again
I realized that the path I was following
Was the road to my death
The words she told me gave me hope again
So I laid down my gun
Put my hate aside
I chose to live
Rather than die
I grew up knowing this hate
