I'm so lucky

Today I’m so lucky, do you want to know why
Today, all day I had no reason to cry
No one was mean to me, no hits no screams
I managed to get through the day without being seen
I felt the sun shine right on my skin
As the white fluffy clouds let the sun’s rays in
White waves sprayed and rolled as they crashed onto the rocks
I felt the warm sand on my feet when I took off my socks
Children were playing happily in the sand
Their shrieks of laughter like tunes from a band
The water was icy on my sundrenched warm skin
The ocean looking like a million sparkling diamonds inviting me in
I could see my house as I turned and looked through the foam
But I don’t think I’ve ever felt so far from home
I smiled as I turned back to water
Today I decide I am nobody’s daughter
I’m nobody’s wife, nobody’s friend
Today I am me right to the end
I swim and I swim as far as my strength will carry me
And there I am alone, so happy...and free
Today I’m so lucky
