Secrets

I met a girl,
Fell in love with just her name.
She was perfect for me,
But she didn't know I was gay.
She became my best friend,
Couldn't take it so I explained.
She said she was sorry,
But she just didn't feel the same.
She's dead and gone,
But the scars on my wrists remain.
She took her own life,
She was scared of who she became.
She said she was unloved,
But I was there everyday.
She said she was terrified,
That God wouldn't love if she's gay.
She said she had to leave,
But there was something she wanted to say.
"I'm sorry for the lies I told,
But I couldn't admit I was gay."
I visit her grave each week,
Every second day.
I brought her a rainbow flag,
And I told her, it was okay.

I hope she heard me.
