I Love You Sometimes

I only love you sometimes.

In those moments when we are quiet
And you can make me laugh,
I love you;
But in those moments when we are still
And I find myself drawing back,
I don’t love you.

When there are things to do
And we have matters to discuss
I can laugh with you;
When there is no entertainment
No words flow between us,
And I turn from you.

You prove yourself so good to me
All the time, you never fail.
So I stay with you.
But you don’t always quench for me
The thirst for sweeter ale
So I wish I could leave you.

And like that ale you intoxicate
Your essence draws me near;
I love you.
Though fuller souls lack your caress
You can’t compare, I fear.

I don’t love you.
