Wanting To Dance

You looked, you stared,
No one cared,
But my heart still skipped a beat.

You called my name
And looked away again
When our eyes would meet.

And then that night
Came into sight.
Excitement clouded my view.

The thought was absurd
But I wouldn't be deterred.
On this night I would dance with you.

And you led me on,
The feeling wasn't gone.
You talked to me all that day.

It was awkward but cute,
I kept going mute,
I didn't know what to say.

And then that night
I came into sight
Of a friend of yours who saw me.

"Dude, come here!"
He called for you to hear.
"There's someone you gotta see!"

I was dressed up,
Just enough,
To be noticed but not to be flashy.

The thought that you might
Notice me this night
Was enough to make me happy.

And when you finally saw me,
Your eyes seemed to be
Wandering in my direction.

I was hoping you would,
If at all you could
Sit next to me in my section.

But you never did see
That I wanted you to be
The one who would take my hand.

I wanted to dance
With you, by chance.
But you didn't understand.

But you still looked at me
With a longing I could see.
Does this mean something else is in store?

I won't take the blame,
No, I will feel no shame,
But I am still waiting for more.

So I'm asking you please.
You make me weak in the knees.
You make me smile when you are near.

Next time there's the chance,
Please ask me to dance,
And from this course I will not veer.

I wrote this after our school's dinner cruise about how I was wanting my crush to ask me to dance.
