That Girl

You see that girl over there
The cute little skinny one
Looking out the window
Yea, her
She has the whole world fooled
That girl over there has the brightest smile
And the best group of friends
She's always laughing
And would do anything to make you laugh with her
But it's all just pretend
Just a show she puts on for the world
A game
She's gotten so good at her little game
Sometimes she even forgets she's playing
But she is, something will always remind her
She can't forget for long
But you see that girl
She looks happy, right
Tapping her pencil on her desk to a tune
Her foot shaking to the same rhythm
She's just looking out the window at the trees
She seems content, ditzy maybe, but not sad
Nothing close to sad
You’ve never seen her cry before, right
Never seen her even frown
But she is sad
That girl over there cries herself to sleep every night
She stays up with her thoughts as they eat her alive
You don’t believe it, do you
Go over and ask how she is
Ask her if she's okay
She'll say she is fine
She'll say nothing is the matter
She won't even think about it
Those answers have become instinct to her
She knows how to say them with a smile on
And how to make them believable
And you will believe, just like everyone else
She closed herself off from the world long ago
You're not getting in that easily
She's good at this
This illusion she shows
She can make anyone believe she is happy
And everyone will
They'll move on, forget about her
And think it silly of them to ever think she was less than happy
Because she looks happy, right
She seems happy
But you see that girl over there
Her head in the clouds
Her mind somewhere else
Still tapping that same tune
That girl isn't happy
All she wanted was for someone to see that
Tell her she wasn’t okay
Wasn't happy
But nobody will
She chased everyone off already
Sometimes she wonders if she's too good at her game
Too good at pretending
At putting on a smile that hides her pain
Too good at not letting anyone in
But you see that girl over there
Don't worry about her
She'll be fine
She's always fine
Just look at her smile
She's happy
She looks happy
