Yeah, I remember it perfectly.

your blunt and edged
voice
interrupted my train of thought as
you spoke my name
with such fluency
that caused my
knees
to become weak and
ears to grow hot as though my heart
found its way to my ear
drums.

I could feel your
heart:

thud... thud... thud...

quicken its pace:

thudthudthudthud

it launched like a
rocket
into space as my lungs
ugred for air that seemed to
no longer exist.

I croaked out a
"Yes?"
and waited for
the inevitable.

You voice almost sighed
with relief
as you exasperated
out those three,
bittersweet words
escaped the clenches of your
teeth.

the words sunk into my
core
and warmed my insides
like hot bath water
to numb toes.

I searched for the words
I knew would not come
like fanmail responses
to over-adored celebrites.

The captives didn't escape the prison
of my jaw,
and I was left with the
back-up-plan of arrogance:

"Yeah, I know."
