Little Dolls

I am not the prettiest,
nor am I the smartest,
but I can tell you stories,
fill your mind with ideas
And take you to unknown places
Without parting my lips to speak.

I’d like to think my home will one day be what it was
and that girls won’t have to sweat as much
as they do to get what they want.
Because people don’t look inside anymore
And if you’re not among the prettiest, not among the smartest,
I’m afraid you won’t be getting very far.

For you see, this place feeds off prejudice,
It’s served every morning at schools
and shoved down our throats from the televisión.
You can’t live, you don’t have the right to,
unless you learn how to judge.

And, what else is there to do?
I guess this is my country,
the place I wish to give my heart to
will not take it because it’s too fat.

There’s too much sugar in my blood
and not enough neurons in my brain.
Well, at least that’s what my parents tell me.

So give me a break, I’ll be back in a few.
I need to go vomit the dinner I didn’t eat,
to see if then I’ll forget my stories
and become a little doll
just like the rest of them.
