An Interview

If you asked
the stranger in her bed
what her name was,
he would tell you "Sarah."
He'd be right.
And if you asked him
her favorite flower,
he may guess lily
(she'd had one in her hair),
he'd be wrong.
If you asked him of her vices,
he would think for a minute
before answering "booze
and cigarettes."
(both were on her breath)
He'd be right.
If you asked him
what her cat's name is,
he may recall
the tabby's name is Aura.
(She had mumbled it at some point
before they'd left the bar)
But if you asked him
why the girl had,
after a nice dessert
of cobbler and ice cream,
stepped outside
onto the balcony
on the seventh floor
of her apartment building,
and thrown herself off
to crash gracelessly to the street below,
the stranger would have no answer.
