Don't Grow Up

Don’t grow up
Always stay my little girl
Keep your innocence
Because as long as you have it,
Nothing can defeat you.

Don’t grow up
Always stay my little girl
Because as long as you’re my little girl
Nothing can harm you
And nothing can take you away

I’ll protect you
I’ll treasure you
I’ll save you
I’ll love you

Don’t grow up
Always stay my little girl
Keep your child-like faith
Because, with it, the devil can’t do a thing to you
Don’t stray from it and you will be safe

Don’t grow up
Always stay my little girl
I’ll watch you dance around the room
When there’s no music playing.
I’ll pick you up when you fall
And I’ll comfort you when you cry

Don’t grow up
Always stay my little girl
Every boy you meet
Will be scared away
Because no one is good enough for you
No one is ever good enough for my little girl

Don’t grow up
Always stay my little girl
I know one day you will meet him
That one man who is finally good enough
Finally good enough for my little girl

Don’t grow up
Always stay my little girl
I know I’ll have to let go soon
Because I know you can’t stay little forever
There’s a man who can finally protect you like I can

So I guess I’ll let you grow up
But you will still always stay my little girl
Because one day I’ll blink and look
Realizing my little girl ain’t so little anymore

And as I stand here looking at you
Looking so beautiful in that white dress
I see my little girl reaching out for me
We take the first steps together
The first steps to your new adventure

Years later, as I look at you
I see my little girl
My beautiful little girl
She’s all grown up with her own little girl now
And as I pass on my knowledge I hope you will

Protect her
Treasure her
Save her
Love her

Teach her all you know
Teach her all I taught you
Because one day soon
You too will be taking those steps with her
The first steps to her own adventure

Oh, she will be a handful
Just like you were
But again, one day soon
You too will be saying
Don’t grow up
Always stay my little girl.

This is just a little something I started the summer of 2012 and just now got insperation to finish it.
It's what I imagine a father saying to his daughter...and it's something I wrote for my dad..I can't wait until he reads it!
