Ana Went to School

Ana went to school
And all the girls just laughed and jeered.
She said nothing to her mother,
Never said a word, but she feared.

Ana went to school.
All the boys called her a creep.
Ana didn't smile that day,
And she cried herself to sleep.

Ana went to school
The next day with marks on her arms.
She wore a long sleeved sweater
To keep her from people's alarm.

Ana went to school,
She didn't eat a thing.
Ana slid right into bed
But didn't sleep or dream.

Ana stayed at home,
She didn't want to go.
Ana ate nothing again,
Did nothing but lie low.

Ana went back to school
And hurt herself again.
Ana just wanted to be skinny.
She just wanted a friend.

Ana went to school.
The girls called her a freak.
She said nothing at all that day
But went home and she'd shriek.

Ana went to school,
But went back home instead.
Ana couldn't stay at school,
She wanted to be dead.

I wrote this poem shortly after I came home from school one day and began to break down because of the way people were treating me in the halls and the hate notes in my locker. The poem could relate to many bully victims, or people who just have depression (or other disorders that may involve depression).
