It's All About the Memories

Don’t walk in front of that bus.
You won’t be remembered.
You won’t stop the hate.
You’ll just stop yourself.

Don’t write that desperate love note.
They don’t deserve it.
They won’t care.
You’ll just embarrass yourself.

Do write that poem.
You inspire someone.
You’ll stop them from walking in front of that bus.
You’ll save a life.

At 3am when you’re still awake.
Get up.
Write a poem.
Shower the negatives out of your hair.
Read that book you’ve read a thousand times.
It might teach you something new.

Your kisses won’t fix them.
Your love won’t fix them.
You can’t fix them.
Be selfish.
Fix yourself.
You can do that.

Treat yourself.
Eat that whole bag of popcorn and don’t feel guilty.
Wander around the art gallery.
Fall in love with the pictures.
Let them speak to you.

Wear fancy clothes.
Go out and have a good time.
Don’t kiss them.
When their hand gets to close,
Walk away.
Sleep in your own bed tonight.

Move to that new city.
Do whatever work you can.
Meet strange new people.
Change your name.
But always call your mother.
She loves you.
Let her know you’re safe.
You can always go home.

They will shout evil at you.
Don’t whisper it to yourself.
Whisper kind words.
Save yourself.
Be your own hero.
Not your worst enemy.

You won’t be beautiful when you die.
Your beauty will leave for the sky.
Life won’t always work out.
But if you don’t have the lows,
How can you have the highs?
Just make sure you live.
Make sure life doesn’t just pass you by.

After all.
It’s all about the memories.
Don’t let that bus be your last one.
