Exotic Chaotic

Creepy crawlies wriggle and squiggle between the ribs in my chest
Jitters slither hither and thither around my limbs they infest
Butterflies flutter by my tumbling tummy fast
As it’s flipping and flying like a backwards gymnast
Then as if the sun itself chose to inhabit me,
My body temperature rises to an excruciating degree

The child in me loves to run and play,
Oft’ in some dangerous way
Strewn on her back (without a care)
Like children lying in the grass (you may find her there)
Oblivious in her youth, she blows bubbles up my throat
They capture the air I try to swallow until I nearly choke
The words in my mind never reach my mouth
Instead they simply bounce off the bubbles and scramble like eggs
The ants go marching up my pants and down my legs
My knees knock furiously to get them out

Oh! I almost forgot about the old woman and all of her kids who live in my shoes
Well, that is until they decided to make lead balloons
Balloons so heavy, in fact, that my feet wouldn’t move
As if stuck to the floor with superglue
My head becomes that of a snake
Whose jaw unhinges to eat its prey
Then the little faeries, too tiny to see,
Hold open my eyelids – they love to prank me

I could not move, not even an inch
Though many stopped and stared, I did not even flinch
The room did soon begin to clear
But still you stayed near
As I remained frozen in time
Trapped in a block of invisible ice, I was a mime
But I never expected
You would act as the rest did
The dots are all disconnected
Maybe it was stupid of me not to suspect it

No more slithering jitters nor creepy crawlies
No more sunny warmth nor fluttering butterflies
And the little girl has since grown up
So no more bubbles, not even soda pop
Not an ant has returned, not even a lone
Then the old woman found her kids a new home
And never again has a single faery dare come near
Ever since you broke our promise sealed in yesteryear
