Okay With Just Being Friends

I have the liberty to tell you now
And let you know just how I feel
Yet it seems that taking that first step
Will somehow make it too real

It's no longer fear of rejection
Of hurt, heartbrokenness or loss
Because somewhere along the line
I stopped considering the cost

I still love you and need you
With everything within me
But I've partly subdued all the dreams I've had
Of what you & I could be

I'm willing to take it slow
Nothing's really going to change
We'll stay like this, us being friends
And we'll take life day by day

Maybe you'll come to love me
About as much as I love you
It's really all I can hope for
That that is what you do

And if you don't, I'll get over you
Somehow, sometime, in some way
But at least now I'm not suffocating
