Learn to Jump

She sat in her safe spot above the ocean, watching those enjoy jumping in and enjoying it's sweet embrace against their skin. She watched as some just took it wave by wave and stayed afloat, she watched some struggle a little but gain stability in the sea. She loved to watch those who were able to handle the water with such grace. She watched the brave ones jump from the cliffs into the dark sea without a single care. She herself was never able to do so.The water scared her, each wave was like a slap to the face begging to take her under.
She stayed in her spot of safety and loneliness. When she saw him. He loved to explore the water. He loved to swim as deep as his lungs would let him. He would swim till his arms became heavy with fatigue. He was not scared of anything the water could do.
To him it was an adventure waiting to be taken.
To her it was a nightmare to be left alone.
Before he jumped she caught his eye. He saw her sit in the same spot every year, never even taking a try at jumping into the clear waters. This also made him realize that he'd never once saw her swim in the water either. He decided that maybe this should change. He began to walk down ledge by ledge to talk to the young girl.
She saw him climbing down to her spot. Her thoughts began to go frantic. Had she done something wrong. Had she somehow upset him, that's impossible she never spoke to him before, or anyone for that matter. His voice broke her from her daze.
"Is there a reason you aren't jumping?" He said.
"uhh....I-I'm just to scared" She said, turning her had to meet his eyes.
His lips broke into a heartbreakingly beautiful smile. "There is nothing to be afraid of" He said, beginning to hold out his hand." If it makes you feel safe, I'll jump with you"
She was shocked. No one had ever offered such a gesture at her. She never once was asked to come join in on the fun. Now all of a sudden some sweet guy decides to invite her to take a plunge into the frigid abyss. She was caught between a rock and a hard place. She was scared of jumping but also a part of her was excited to take her first dive into it.
He could sense her fear,"Don't be scared to jump in. It can not harm you as long as you learn to control it. The only thing that can drowned you, is you." He helped her to her feet and keeping her hand in his, he positioned into a stance ready to jump.
He looked down at the sparkling clear blue water.
She looked down at the dark deep depth of water.
He looked down at her. " Ready to jump?"
She just gave him a very meek nod, that was all she could muster to do.
It all came in flashes. He grabbed her hand and counted down. Then they jumped. Her stomach was doing flips and her brain was spinning. The fall into the water felt as if it took hours. But it was merely seconds. Then it hit her like a bus. The water was nothing like she had feared. It was warm as it hugged her body. She let herself sink into the wonderful new feeling. She opened her eyes and saw the clearness of the blue water, she could see streams of light that broke into the water. She felt herself floating back to the top. When she came up into the air, she took a steady breath and looked into the eyes of the boy who helped her jump.

This is a metaphor. The water is life. Some people see life as dark and they sometimes need to find a person who sees the light side of it to help them change perspective.Sometimes the person they need to find is themselves.
