one chance

i gave you one chance
with my chest split wide open
i let your hands
into my ribcage
i let your fingernails
trace the veins on my heart

and then one day
your nails pierced through
and burst it open; it bled at the seams
filling up my lungs with blood

and i sewed it up by myself
with shaky hands and black thread
and it always split back open
and i always sewed it back shut

and then you came back
with sharper nails
and you slid right down my careful embroidery
and broke me
right
back
open

i gave you another chance
with my chest split wide open
i let your hands
into my ribcage
i let your fingernails
into my heart
and you found stitches there too
and you ripped them open
and with bloody hands
stole my heart right
out
of my

chest.
