Perpetual Midnight

Time flies when the moon flies with us
It takes away the sun in the the sky
It sprouts its mast and sails on the updrafts
I've always wondered, "Why, oh why?"

And you and I, we are midnight strollin'
Down a lane I once thought was stolen
The moon casts a shadow just beneath the tree
Under which we sat past two or three

Why, oh why?

Then when I woke up (by myself)
That very next mornin'
I felt as if (all alone)
My heart was torn and
I slowly dragged (my only coffin)
Myself home
It turns out (my dust and bones)
I had been all alone

And you left me
Where you had never even been before
Because you're not real
I made you up, 'cause I'm such a bore

I took my time
On the path back the way we came
I returned home late at night
I fell asleep when it started to rain

Two advil, a morning martini
Only the third day of our trip
I made a cocktail of time and memories
I teared up with every bitter sip

Too stroll back down the same path
I had taken twice prior
Was a chore in and of itself
You're such a fake and dirty liar

Why, oh why?

I arrived back
Late that night
Only to find
You were out of sight
I searched and scoured
The moon drenched field
I desperately looked
For some purpose to wield

And you left me
Where you had never even been before
Because you're not real
I made you up, 'cause I'm such a bore

And I
Take a midnight walk
In perpetuity
Take away the daylight
And I'll see you
Again soon

I took my time
On the path back the way we came
I returned home late at night
I fell asleep when it started to rain

Outside
The world is a place in which I can't rely
Inside
The universe is a thing that takes me to the skies
Reside
In this place that I can't control, but I can defy
Confide
In you that I will love you until I die...
