The Diary's Note

Ian Shiner went to war

Calling his wife every day
Admiring her from afar
Not knowing if he'd die
Though promising to be with her

While waiting, Mary was faithful
Always worried, but optimistic
In their large home she sat
Tearing up from loneliness

Then one day it all changed
One day Ian died

Carefully a flag was folded
Only Mary stood in attendance
Mary wept after reading
Every word in his diary's note...

Home is where I want to be
Only with Mary to stay with me
Maybe we'll have a kid or two
Each day I'll tell them I love them, too.

I can't wait to come home.
