The Lies Behind Her Eyes

erfect lips, coated in heavy red,
Almost as though they've bled.
Skin a smooth shade of ivory,
Like a ghost, she looks unlively.
Trusting blue eyes,
A disguise, they're hiding her lies.
Wearing heavy make-up,
So many bruises beneath her cover-up.
For the world, she always smiles,
When alone, the tears pour for miles.
Her life is full of abuse,
Her life's been threatened; she has not the ability to refuse.
So many things seem to be going wrong,
She fakes a laugh and pretends to be strong.
Tomorrow is yet another day,
Perhaps at last she'll find a way.
A way to feel safe at last,
A way to leave her fear in the past.

This poem is about abuse; I wrote it my second year at Concord University when a friend gave me abuse as a topic to write about.
