Opaque, Unnecessary Makeup

She applied different colors to her face.
Her long, red dress sparkled in the sunlight.
The soft fabric was obviously expensive.
Past scars were no longer there.
Her hair was in an unfamiliar style.
The eyes I once knew had longer lashes.
As she stood infront of the mirror,
I saw a reflection of someone else.

"Do you like it?
I did this all for you."
It was sweet that she did all of this for me,
But she didn't look comfortable.
I wanted to tell her that she looked amazing,
But this wasn't her.
This was a woman I didn't know.

And I told her the truth.
"The dress is beautiful,
But you wouldn't normally wear it.
Your face is covered in foreign colors.
Where is the beautiful face I fell in love with?
You are breath-taking without makeup.
You don't wear luxury clothing.
A life of royalty isn't the life you live.
You don't have to look like a queen.
I'll treat you like one, anyway."

Her face was so innocent as she spoke.
"I did this for you.
I just wanted you to be happy with me."
Her voice was trembling.
"If not a queen,
What would you want me to look like?"
I gave my answer whole-heartedly.
"I'd want you to look like you.
No one else could be more beautiful. "
And she cried as she washed her face.
She changed into her usual, simple clothing,
And her lips made contact with mine.
Her tears were filled with an overwhelming elation.
I held her there for countless moments.
The feeling was unexplainable.
