Love

“For what?” he asks.
“For love.” I respond.
But we both know it is a lie.
He lives in a world where he knows no love.
Everything, everyone has forsaken him,
and left him all alone.
So now this love I try so desperately to give him,
this love I try to make him understand
is a foreign concept he pushes away.
I try to send him love in bold ways,
like big bangs,
I try to send him love in small ways
like sweet whispers.
Only it all hits the wall he has built up
to protect himself.
If only I could find a way to break down the wall.
If only I could find a way to get inside.
Otherwise, I fear I'll lose him altogether.
