My father always said 'never date a man
Who doesn't show you off to his friends;
Like you were the golden prize rather than a conquest.'
My father taught me that if my partner didn't treat me like the
strong, independent woman
I was brought up to be,
then he deserved no place in my life.
My father explained that if I did not feel safe or comfortable in the presence of another, then I should cut them out of my life completely, with no remorse.
But I am still learning, there are days where I can't see through the fake exteriors of others. I can't tell who is holding the knife behind their back while smiling politely to my face. But I am here and I am learning and that's okay.
