Singing
He sings to hide the pain
He sings to fade away
He sings a melody to soothe your soul
Yet agonizes his
Sings the songs of greats to feel close to them
His mind is on This Wild Life but moves on to Queen
A codex of music recorded in his mind so he does not feel alone
He sings in the dark to scare away his demons
For he fears the truth in their words
Sings for joy because that is all he knows
His life is awful but he keeps singing
Those on the outside think him a jolly fellow
Free of worry and care
But look behind his singing and you see the man
A man crying out in pain
Tortured and run ragged
Struggling
Struggling to keep the knife away
Struggling for everyday
Maybe one day this man who sings will finally find his song
But until that day he’ll sing all night long.
