Hours pass between replies
Much to my surprise
Phone rings, butterflies flutter
Long laughs and dumb jokes muttered
Sweet words spoken
Few promises broken

Hours turn to days
Now it’s week long delays
Skype rings, his smile on screen
Tears fall, something like a movie scene
Short call, kind words spoken
Further promises broken

Expecting less, lesson learned
Feelings still there, but not returned
Months go by, he says hello
Expectations oh so low
Short explanations
For hard situations

Phone rings, it’s been so long
Apologies told, he says he was wrong
Laughing again, loving words spoken
He has to go, no promises broken

Hours again, days come next
Links and emoji’s instead of text
Same routine, hopes crash and burn
Things don’t change, I’ll never learn

Speaking up this time, shaking like a leaf
Opened but no reply, I’m in disbelief
Everything's the same
