Things Unspoken; Things Unheard

Which is louder? A teacher posing a question or a student answering?
Neither is unspoken; neither is unheard.
Which is louder? A cry in the silence of the night or a cry in the middle of Times Square?
Neither is unspoken; one is unheard.
Which is louder? A closed book with virgin pages or an open book with rambling words?
Both are unspoken; neither is unheard.
Which is louder? A silent plea through eye contact or a silent plea to the distant clouds?
Both are unspoken; one is unheard.
Which is louder? A poem of twisted tragic tales or an “I love you” to a companion already lost?
Neither is unspoken; both are unheard.
Which is louder? A text message of tears: “I’m fine” or a smile to a crowd while falling apart?
Both are unspoken; both are unheard.
Which is louder?
Things unspoken…………………………………………………………………...things unheard?

I hope this poem just makes you think a little and play with the abstract senses and events within your mind. This poem is a play on the philosophical question, "If a tree falls down in the middle of a forest and no one sees it, did it really happen?" Thus the tree is not unspoken, but is unheard.
