Glory and Sunlight

Like a moth to a flame I am drawn to your light
Close enough to bathe in your perfection
But far enough away that I can't be burned.
I'm just another shadow in your spotlight,
A faceless nameless contender in a competition I never wanted to enter
That I'm never going to win.
I'm another torch lighting a corner of the mine shaft,
One of many millions of beams showing you how important you are
While you dig for gold.
I am an Icarus and you are the sun
But I'm not nearly close enough for my fragile wings to melt.
Is that a good thing?
If I were to fall and end my days in a sea of nothing
It'd be worth the effort to fly in your warmth.
I'm another cliché in the story of your life,
Sitting here wishing for you and all of your impossibility.
You are the flame and I am the moth
And I can't take the cold much longer.
