The Stages of Post Break Up Madness

Stage One: Post Parting Depression
The first stage is the most passionate,
It is like a daze,
You cannot comprehend the separation,
And when it finally hits you,
It feels as if all of the worlds waves,
Have crashed down upon you,
In a way that can only be described
As the end.
You lose five or ten pounds because
The only nourishment you find
Is a 3 am consolation carton of Ben & Jerrys
And you can't remember if your last real meal
Was the last time he told you he loved you
Or the first.
Stage Two: Pseudo Happiness
It has been a few months now,
And your tears
And late night I love you, I hate you texts that you never
end up sending
Have become stale
In an ironic way
Because that's how he described
His feelings for you
The sun begins to shine bright again
But it stopped reminding you of the way
You shined on his lips during those 11 pm
Memories filled with quiet whimpers
And giggles
And for the first time
You remember why he fell in love with you
In the first place
And you begin to fall in love with yourself
And you're happy
Stage 3: Numbness
It has now been almost a year,
And you have kissed other boys
But they always complain about the taste
Of His name on your lips
And you always find yourself marveling at all of the things
These new boys have in common
With Him
And when you're in a crowd near the places
You used to go out too
You can't help
But look around
With a racing heart
And try to find His face
Every other night your dreams
Are invaded with
His laugh,
His kiss,
His smile,
And the words 'I want you back'
Echoing through your cranium.
And you wake up
With a void in your chest,
Because you wanted it to be real.
But not matter how hard you try to cry,
You find that you ran out of tears for Him
A long time ago.
You develop insomnia,
And stop eating
But you don't even realize it
Because you have been suspended in
Time
You're living in another dimension
Because you're just too damn numb to see the truth
It's now 9 am and
You're on your 43rd hour awake
But like the endless rotations
Of an unsolved rubik's cube
You have forgotten the algorithm,
Left the equation of your life uneven.
And you wonder if he is as sleepless as you,
But you know,
That the way his fingers have seeped under your skin,
And tore at your muscles,
And veins,
Leaving the beautiful empire
That was once your thriving body in ruins,
Are not a coincidence.
And you wonder if she reminds him of you at all,
Or if you're just another pawn in His endless game of chess,
While he was your checkmate.
Stage 4:
