My Childhood

where oceans divide us,
our religion
our heritage
reunites us.
from where i stand, i see my childhood
i see my friends my cousins my family
and i see danger.
what i want is to see
all that our nation can be.
all that it is.
terror
gun shots
bombs
our childhood memories are being stained with blood
and from where i stand
i can do nothing to stop it.
i don’t want to be a stranger to my own home
i don’t want to regret letting my childhood go
i don’t want to say i did nothing
i want to do something but i don’t know what.
this feeling of emptiness and helplessness
that we feel today
is the last time we will feel this weak
we have to rise and keep our childhood alive.`
