A Shadow's Love Song

I am a black shadow
but whenever you are near me
I feel my non-existent heart warm up
and when I try to look
amongst the blackness of my being
I can see a red aura beating*
in the shape of a heart.

I feel happy
so I try touching you,
but I am nothing but a shadow
so what I get is emptiness
because you can't see me or feel me,
you don't yearn to
because you don't know.

If you had knowledge of my feelings
would you understand?
Would you try to reach with your small hands
my crying heart?
If you knew the length of my feelings,
would you beg your god to give me a body of my own?
If only you knew.

A shadow's thoughts about the one he loves along with the torment of wanting a human body of his own.

This is one of the poems I wrote based on the title. I just loved that title and I created a short story to match it. It usually goes the other way around (writing the poem first and then naming it), but not with this one. The title came on my mind from a manga's title. It's called ''Akuma to Love Song'', the love song of a devil and then I thought what if it was a shadow's song? That's how the title was inspired and from the title came that short story in the form of a poem.

The idea makes me want to write a story about it, a lengthy about a shadows in love wanting to obtain a body of his own and so on, but I have to much on my plate at the moment. Who knows though, I might get to it when I feel motivatd enough and with free time to spare.
