If You Could See Him

The sun sets over the flat lands,
fireflies dance in the sky,
a summer breeze blows over me,
I wanna spread my wings and fly.
But he's there beside me and he holds my hand,
keeps me grounded in this promised land,
and when he smiles at me, oh if you could see what I see..

If you could see him, you'd see the Mountains in his eyes,
you'd see the promise of the state line, and the stars in the night sky.
You'd see the smile that drove me crazy, you'd see the love I thought I'd never find..
If you could see him, you'd see why.

Country roads never felt so much like home..
like they did when I was with him.
And the sound of the same song on the radio
never had me begging for it to play again -
like it did on that night in the middle of June
when the sun set over the lake.
Watched shooting stars light up our sky,
and I wished it would never go away.

Oh if you could see him, you'd see the mountains in his eyes,
you'd see the promise of the state line, and the stars in the night sky.
You'd see the smile that drove me crazy, you'd see the love I thought I'd never find..
If you could see him, you'd see why.

And all this time I swear nothings changed, I still see you in my mind.
Everything in between doesn't mean a thing to me, I swear I made it out alright.
But they only see the tears and they only see the breaks, and they ask me all the time..
Why're you missing someone that smothered all your shine?

Oh and I say..

I wish you could see him.. See the mountain in his eyes.
I wish you'd see the promise of that state line and our love burning up the night sky.
I wish you'd see the smile that drove me crazy - and the love we had to leave behind..

I wish you could see him, oh I wish you could see him..

When he was.. mine.
