Princess Pissy-Pants

There's a girl who likes to play with dolls
at twenty-two years old
bites down on plastic teething rings
to sooth not a pain in her mouth
but rather, her soul

Carries with her, a teddy bear
still loved, even with loose seams
soft and warm, and sewn with trusting eyes
offering a sense of comfort
as she drifts off to sleep

Clad in frilly socks, and a dazzling smile
with silky ribbons in her hair
a sippy cup full of dreams
thoughts filled with butterflies and rainbows
as she skips around without a care

She longs for a softness, like baby wipes
swept across her skin
a powder-fresh like scent
she just can't resist
a trance of sudden sleepiness, has she put herself in

Reminds herself of childhood
with wishes to go back
in time, to a better place
she floods herself with memories
like building blocks she stacked

Pacify the whiny child
console her when she weeps
secrets kept behind closed doors
of her dollhouse
locked up with plastic keys

She keeps a peanut butter jelly heart
sealed up tight inside a treasure chest
glimmering with innocence
but while the water's running, be warned
not to peek beneath her dress

Sat upon her potty chair
with pouty lips, and blushing cheeks
but I guess there could be worse
habits, aside from a soft rustle in her steps
or a bed with rubber sheets

A thumb, never too far away from her lips
while playing make-believe
just longing for a gentle touch
in the sand box, building castles
are her thoughts so naive

Reminded of the better things in life
like story books and lullabies
she feels like a fairy tale
eyes like stars, shining bright
with the promises of paradise

There's a girl with the mind of a child
at just twenty-two years old
and sure, she is a handful
marking crayon upon the walls
of her bubble gum soul
