Spring Break

The further from home I fly,
As I stare at the changing sky,

The more weight I feel being lifted,
And I understand that this is a gift.

I will be the stranger here,
Yet I feel no fear.

I am lost but need not be found.

For only when I am across the sea
Do I truly feel free.

No expectations upon me,
No judgement from those I already know.

Here I feel I can grow
And, at least for a while,
Leave my own world behind.

So I softly smile,
And clear my mind.

The noise provides a glorious silence.
A distraction from the past.
I embrace the absence,
And can only hope it will last.
