I Miss You When You Sleep

I miss you when you sleep.
It doesn't matter if I am lying there next to you
Or if I am lying in bed, alone,
One thousand miles away from you.

I'm afraid of many things from childhood,
The dark, thunder, fire, and men.
And when I am wrapped in the blankets,
At 2 AM,
Waking from a nightmare,
Only to find myself in the nightmare of reality,
I know you are sleeping
And so I muffle my cries for you.
But I miss you
And I wish you would wake up
And I could hear your voice.

As I write this, you are sleeping
States away from me
And I cannot help but to glance at my phone
Wanting to call you
And sob into your ear
And I want you to try to make me feel better
In that special way of yours.
