Starlight Gaze

I offered him
the sun
and moon, balanced
in my open palm;
he swallowed them.
but oh,
those stars
in my eyes, you see? for him they refused
to tremble.
I spoke to them at night when
the glow was brightest
and they whispered "our luminescence
is not his"
I pleaded
but
to no avail.
they would not listen.

but my lover, you see
shone too bright to settle
for anything less
than my entire constellation, handed
on a silver platter.
angered by his
foolishness, the moon eclipsed
inside his belly
my radiant sunbeams
turned supernova
my solar system
dribbled
from his lips.

it was never his
to begin with.

and I was left
to clean up the rancid mess
of my sunshine turned
black hole.

about a boy who chose to have none of me rather than any less than all of me. and I could not give him that.
