Worth Knowing

If I died here tomorrow at the end of the day
What would you all say
What about you in the back of the room
Would you even come to the wake
When did you know her and for how long
What did you share, did either of you care

Was she a dreamer or was she a doer
Would she howl at the moon or sit at home and watch cartoons
Was her life a great love song or a lonely little whimper

Would she fade away easily from your life
Or would she touch it still
Was it worth knowing her

In all of her new starts, did she carry you through
Did she leave you along the way, or was it you who flew
Did you talk to her last Monday or has it been years
Do you know her favorite food or her greatest fear
Does she know your favorite song or was she there when you cried
Or were you just humans passing on by
Are you now humans passing on by

When I was a child I knew people, I didn't understand friendships
Not caring to know anyone for more than a few years
As a teenager I saw my future ahead of me
I left them all behind not considering where they would be
I thought we might stay in touch

I lived in a dorm
I lived with people who would become my best friends
I learned there was more to life than a stable career
A wise young man once told me what life is all about
It's the people you meet and relationships you make

Was she a dreamer or was she a doer
Would she howl at the moon or sit at home and watch cartoons
Was her life a great love song or a lonely little whimper

Would she fade away easily from your life
Or would she touch it still
Was it worth knowing her

In all of her new starts, did she carry you through
Did she leave you along the way, or was it you who flew
Did you talk to her last Monday or has it been years
Do you know her favorite food or her greatest fear
Does she know your favorite song or was she there when you cried
Or were you just humans passing on by
Are you now humans passing on by

The people I lived with, I hold you close
I am terrified to lose you as I move away
As I start a new life, I fill it with new people
I cling to the memories and the bonds that we had shared
Afraid that you will meet the same fate as those I have forgot

Would she fade away easily from your life
Or would she touch it still
Was it worth knowing her

In all of her new starts, did she carry you through
Did she leave you along the way, or was it you who flew
Did you talk to her last Monday or has it been years
Do you know her favorite food or her greatest fear
Does she know your favorite song or was she there when you cried
Or were you just humans passing on by
Are you now humans passing on by

If I could make a speech at my own funeral
I would only have six words to say to everyone I knew:
It was worth knowing you, too

I know it seems a bit morbid at first, but that was the sentence that kind of inspired me. Hope you like it, or if you don't feel free to tell me. It might be a little long, too
